Vakarai or Vaharai, The Sinhala name වාකර is pronounced 'vākara'. It is a town in the Batticaloa District of Sri Lanka, located about 65 km Northwest of Batticaloa. The Anglicization vākari should be preferred to vāhari. This a predominant Tamil area, and headquarters the Koralai Pathu North Division with a population around 21,000. The residents are predominantly poor fishermen or farmers.

Upaar Lagoon

Upaar Lagoon is an estuarine lagoon in Batticaloa District, eastern Sri Lanka. The lagoon is fed by a number of small rivers. It is linked to the sea by a narrow channel to the south. The lagoon is surrounded by evergreen forest and scrubland. The land is used for subsistence fishing and some rice cultivation. The lagoon has extensive mangrove swamps and some sea grass beds. The lagoon attracts a wide variety of water birds.

Verugal Bridge

Verugal Bridge is a road bridge across Verugal Aru in eastern Sri Lanka. The bridge was formally opened on 19 October 2011. The bridge is 105 m long. The bridge cost 250 million rupees and was financed by a soft loan from the French Development Agency's Trincomalee Integrated Infrastructure Project and the Sri Lankan Government's Kilakku Vasantham (Eastern Awakening) programme. The bridge is part of the A15 Batticaloa-Trincomalee highway.

Verugal Aru

The Verugal Aru (Verugal River), literally "flood or that which overflows"; is a river on the island Ceylon that separates the Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts. The famous Verugal Kandaswamy Temple lies on its banks. It flows through Verugal town, just north of Kathiraveli. The river reaches the Indian ocean on the eastern coast of the island just south of Trincomalee. The river also feeds the Ullackalie Lagoon.
