SLAF Batticaloa

SLAF Batticaloa is a Sri Lanka Air Force base located on the island of Thimilathiu west of Batticaloa in Sri Lanka. After the renovations are completed in January 3, 2013, the airport will be capable of handling narrow-body jets like the Boeing 737, Boeing 757 and aircraft of the Airbus A320 family.

Batticaloa Teaching Hospital

Batticaloa Teaching Hospital is a government hospital in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. It is the leading hospital in the Eastern Province and is controlled by the central government in Colombo. The hospital is the only teaching hospital in the Eastern Province. The hospital is the main clinical teaching facility for the Eastern University. As of 2010 it had 900 beds.

1990 Batticaloa massacre

The 1990 Batticaloa massacre, also known as the Sathurukondan massacre, was a massacre of at least 184 minority Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, including infants, from three villages in the Batticaloa District by the Sri Lankan Army personnel on September 9, 1990. Although the government instituted two investigations, no one was ever charged.
