2008 Weliveriya bombing

On April 6, 2008, 15 people were killed by an alleged suicide bomber, who exploded himself at the start of a marathon race which was part of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration in Weliweriya town, Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's national athletics coach Lakshman de Alwis, politician Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, former Olympics runner K.A. Karunaratne and army officer Lt Colonel Udayadeera were killed in the bombing which wounded 90 others.

Udugampola

Udugampola is a small village in the Gampaha District of Sri Lanka. The main point in the area is around the intersection of Gampaha-Minuwangoda and Kotugoda-Naiwala roads. According to the legends Udugampola had been the Kingdom of a provincial king called "Sakalakala Wallabha". His son tried to kill his father by planting pointed wood hidden under the water where the king used to bathe. But before jumping on to the points the king observed small flying insects landing on the water surface.

Kadawatha

'Kadawatha' (also written as Kadawata) is a suburb of Colombo city, situated on the A1 highway from Colombo to Kandy, in Sri Lanka. The distance to Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka, is about 17Km from Kadawatha. DSI (rubber), Smak (soft drinks), Alcobronzo (industrial machines), Sparklit(diesel motor house), Mayadunne Sons, WaterCorridor (Strategic Investments & Leisure destinations) and Homerun Pas (crayons) are some of the industries established there.

Ganemulla

Found in the British era Ganemulla is a mid size town situated in the Gampaha District of Sri Lanka. Ganemulla is about 9 km from Kadawatha on the Colombo-Kandy road. The nearest city to Ganemulla is Gampaha, which is about 5 km in distance. Ganemulla is surrounded by Kadawatha, Gampaha, Ja-Ela and Kandana towns. The population in Ganemulla now more than 6000 and increasing. The majority is Sinhala Buddhist. Catholics also lives a small amount in harmony with the majority.
