Gränsö Slott

Gränsö Slott (Gränsö Castle) is a castle located near Västervik, Sweden. The site dates back to the medieval ages. The original castle consisted of a main hall made in wood, which was built in 1807 by Olof Johan Risselskiöld. The castle was extended many times during the 19th century. In 1992, the castle was subject to an extensive renovation. In 1993, when the renovation was nearly finished, a devastating fire destroyed the whole building.

Västervik Municipality

Västervik Municipality (Västerviks kommun) is a municipality in Kalmar County, south-eastern Sweden, with its seat in the city of Västervik. The present municipality was created in 1971, when the former City of Västervik was amalgamated with eight surroundning rural municipalities.

HVDC Gotland

The HVDC Gotland, on the Swedish east coast, was the first fully commercial static plant for high voltage direct current transmission in the world. The first HVDC Gotland link (Gotland 1) went into service in 1954. It could transfer 20 megawatts over a 98-kilometer-long submarine cable between Västervik on the mainland and Ygne on the island of Gotland, with a voltage of 100kV. As a static inverter, Mercury arc valves were used.
