Skaga stave church

Skaga stave church is a twice rebuilt medieval stave church in Tiveden, Karlsborg Municipality, Sweden. The original chapel was built in the 1130s during the Christianization of Scandinavia, but it was demolished in 1826 to combat persistent pagan practices in the area. The locals wanted their church back and worked for it to be rebuilt. In 1960, a reconstruction was inaugurated, but it burnt down in 2000. The following year, the church was rebuilt once again.

Tiveden

Tiveden is a Swedish forest, throughout history notorious for its wilderness and dangers; historically a hiding place for outlaws. Within it, the Tiveden National Park has a designated area of 13.5 km², a comparatively small and arguably the most inaccessible part of the forest. It was established in 1983, and administratively belongs to the municipalities of Karlsborg and Laxå.

Trollkyrka

Trollkyrka is a secluded butte-like rock in the heart of the National Park of Tiveden, Sweden, which served as a pagan sacrificial ground for centuries after Christianity became the dominant religion in Scandinavia. It may have been used as late as the 19th century, when popular tradition still held the mountain to be off-limits for Christians. According to Lidman old people used to say: "No Christian can go there. The mountains of the troll church belong to the heathen trolls.

Karlsborg Municipality

Karlsborg Municipality (Karlsborgs kommun) is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Karlsborg. The present municipality was formed in 1971 when "old" Karlsborg was amalgamated with Mölltorp and Undenäs. The area has been dominated by Karlsborg Fortress and military activity throughout the last centuries. Tiveden National Park is partly situated within the municipality.

Karlsborg Fortress

Karlsborg Fortress is situated on the Vannäs peninsula in Karlsborg by lake Vättern, the province of Västergötland, Sweden. Construction on the fortress began 1819 to realize the so-called central defense idea adopted by the Swedish military after the Finnish and Napoleonic Wars. The site was chose by Baltzar von Platen in connection with the construction of Göta kanal.
