Meiringen railway station

Meiringen is a railway station in the town of Meiringen in the Swiss canton of Bern. Meiringen is a railway junction at the meeting point of two railway lines. The Brünig line of the Zentralbahn is an inter-regional metre gauge railway that links Interlaken and Lucerne, whilst the Meiringen–Innertkirchen railway (MIB) is a local railway that links to Innertkirchen and the Aar Gorge.

Reichenbachfall railway

The Reichenbachfall railway is a funicular in the Swiss canton of Berne. It links Willigen, near Meiringen, with the famous Reichenbach Falls, where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional hero, Sherlock Holmes, apparently dies at the end of "The Adventure of the Final Problem". The funicular, opened in 1899, has a length of 714 metres and overcomes a vertical distance of 244 metres with a maximum gradient of 58%.

Reichenbach Falls

The Reichenbach Falls (Reichenbachfall) are a series of waterfalls on the Reichenbach stream in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. They have a total drop of 250 metres . At 90 metres, the Upper Reichenbach Falls is one of the highest cataracts in the Alps. Today, a hydro-electric power company harnesses the flow of the Reichenbach Falls during certain times of year, reducing its flow.

Brünig-Hasliberg railway station

Brünig-Hasliberg is a Swiss railway station located at the highest point of the Brünig Pass, on the Brünig line, owned by the Zentralbahn, that links Interlaken and Lucerne. The station takes its name from the name of the pass, and the resort area of Hasliberg, which lies to its east. Politically, the station is in the municipality of Meiringen in the canton of Bern, albeit 5 km horizontally and 400 m vertically from the village centre.

Aar Gorge

The Aar Gorge is a section of the river Aar that carves through a limestone ridge near the town of Meiringen. The gorge is an indirect product of glaciation; 10,000 years ago, just as the Ice Age was coming to an end, torrential runoff water from melting glaciers eroded a deep, narrow chasm through the limestone barrier. Although barely one mile long, this passage is bordered by sheer cliffs up to 165 feet (50 m) high on either side.
