Sanchong District

Sanchong District is an inner city district in the western part of New Taipei City, Taiwan. With an area of 16.32 km² and a population of 384,618 people (2003), it has the fourth highest population density in Taiwan and 23rd in the world, with over 23,900 people per km². Until the December 25, 2010 creation of New Taipei, Sanchong was itself a city in the former Taipei County.

Dadaocheng

Dadaocheng, spelled Twatutia before Japanese rule, is an area in the Datong District, part of the Taipei Basin and a historic section of Taipei City. It was known as Daitotei by the Japanese and Tataocheng during the Kuomintang era. Dadaocheng was an important trading port in the 19th century, and is still a major historical tourist attraction and shopping area. When the export of tea became important in northern Taiwan in the mid-19th century, many businessmen came to Dadaocheng.

Datong District, Taipei

Datong District is a district of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is located between the Taipei Metro Red Line and eastern shore of the Tamsui River, and between Civic Boulevard and the Sun Yat-sen Freeway. The southern part of this area was previously the site of Dadaocheng, one of the first settlements in what is now Taipei and for a time the area's commercial center.

228 Incident

The 228 Massacre, 2/28 Massacre, also called 228 Incident by Kuomintang (KMT), or 2/28 for short, was an anti-government uprising in Taiwan that began on February 27, 1947 which was violently suppressed by the KMT-led Republic of China government and which resulted in the massacre of numerous civilians, beginning on February 28, or 2/28. Estimates of the number of deaths vary from 10,000 to 30,000 or more.

Chien-Cheng Circle

The Chien-Cheng Circle or Taipei Circle, was once a bustling food market and a city landmark in the Datong district of Taipei. It existed 96 years from its opening during the Japanese colonial era, to its official closing on Sunday, July 2, 2006 after years of decline in resulting from two conflagrations in the 1990s and an unsuccessful project to revitalize the market in 2003. After some replanning, it was set to reopen in June 2009, but as of 2010 the reopening date is uncertain.
