Sarpi, Georgia

Sarpi is a border village on the coast of the Black Sea, on the border between Turkey and Georgia. It is inhabited by the Laz. Sarpi is the main land border crossing between the two countries and a major conduit for business travel, especially for Turkish companies doing business in Batumi. Sarpi is located about 12 km south of Batumi and about 20 km northeast of Hopa, Turkey.

Kemalpaşa, Artvin

Kemalpaşa (former Makriyali) is a coastal town in Hopa district of Artvin Province, Turkey. At {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:41|29|N|41|31|E||| | |name= }} it is 15 kilometres east of Hopa and 5 kilometres west of the Sarp border check point to Georgia. The population of the town is 4894 as of 2011. In 1551 it was annexed to Ottoman Empire. Although it was occupied by the Russian Empire in 1915 during the First World War, it was returned to Turkey in 1921.

Gonio

Gonio fortress (Georgian: გონიოს ციხე, previously called Apsaros, or Apsaruntos), is a Roman fortification in Adjara, on the Black sea, 15 km south of Batumi, at the mouth of the Chorokhi river. The village sits 4 km north of the Turkish border. The oldest reference to the fortress is by Pliny the Elder in the Natural History (1st century AD). There is also a reference to the ancient name of the site in Appian’s Mithridatic Wars (2nd century AD).
