Vasylivka

Vasylivka is a city in Zaporizhia Oblast in southern Ukraine. The city is situated on the banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir on the Dnieper River. Population is 15,592. The area was settled by the Zaporozhian Cossacks in the 1740s. In 1788, Catherine II of Russia granted the region to Vasili Stepanovich Popov, a Russian general whose name Vasylivka still bears. His grandson built the Popov Castle there. The residence was visited by Anton Makarenko in 1925.

Popov Castle

The Popov Castle is a castle-like rural residence built between 1864 and 1884 near the town of Vasylivka, Ukraine by Vasili Popov Jr. (a grandson of General Vasili Stepanovich Popov). Its Gothic Revival design is attributed to Nicholas Benois. The main house had a telescope, a picture gallery, and an ethnographic museum. The castle was looted by the Bolsheviks and ruined by the Germans in the Second World War. Restoration works did not start until the 1990s.

Molochansk

Molochansk is a city in Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine. It is located at around {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:47|12|26|N|35|35|41|E| | |name= }}. Molochna River flows through the city. Molochansk was founded in 1804 by Dutch Mennonite settlers who were invited to settle on the vast steppes of the Tsar's Russian empire. They called the new village "Halbstadt". Due to the Russian hostile national policies towards Germans in 20th century, almost no native Germans are left in the region.

Molotschna

Molotschna Colony was a Ukrainian Mennonite settlement in what is now Zaporizhia Oblast in Ukraine. Today it is called Molochansk with a population of under 10,000. The settlement is named after the Molochna River which forms its western boundary. Today the land mostly falls within the Tokmatskyi and Chernihivskyi Raions. The nearest large city is Melitopol to the southwest of Molotschna. Molotschna was founded in 1804 by Mennonite settlers from West Prussia and consisted of 57 villages.
