Benefield Castle

Benefield Castle was sited in the village of Lower Benefield, between the towns of Corby and Oundle in Northamptonshire at grid reference SP987884. Originally the site of a Norman manor house, a stone ringwork fortress was built in the 13th century. It was abandoned by the early 14th century. It now consists of a rectangular platform surrounded by a broad ditch which represents the original moat. This is in turn surrounded by an earthen bank.

East Northamptonshire

East Northamptonshire (officially "The District of East Northamptonshire") is a local government district in Northamptonshire, England. Its council is based in Thrapston and Rushden. Other towns include Oundle, Raunds, Irthlingborough and Higham Ferrers. The town of Rushden is the largest settlement in the district and the smallest settlement is the hamlet of Shotley.
