RAF Balderton

Royal Air Force Station Balderton or more simply RAF Balderton is a former Royal Air Force station located 2.0 miles south of Newark-on-Trent, sandwiched between the now extinct Great Northern Railway (GNR) Bottesford-Newark line and the A1 road in Nottinghamshire, England. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces.

RAF Fulbeck

Royal Air Force Station Fulbeck or more simply RAF Fulbeck is a former Royal Air Force station located 6.3 miles east of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire and 10.9 miles west of Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England. The airfield is located about 106 miles north-northwest of London and was opened in 1940 when it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces. During the war it was used primarily as troop carrier airfield for airborne units. After the war it was closed in 1948.

Cotham, Nottinghamshire

Cotham is a small village on the east bank of the River Devon, 4 miles south of Newark. It contains 98 inhabitants, and 1,210 acres of land valued at £1,700, all belonging to the Duke of Portland, who is the impropriator and patron of St. Michael's Church, Cotham. The church was partly rebuilt, a porch being added, and new pews in 1832. The living is a donative valued at £35, and is now enjoyed by the Rev. John Ince Maltby of Shelton.

Newark rail crash

A disaster on the British rail network occurred on 21 June, 1870 when two trains collided at Newark in Nottinghamshire, England, killing 18 passengers and injuring 40 others. The investigation found that an axle had broken on the goods train, and the excursion train collided with the debris on the track.
