Southwell Rural District

Southwell was a rural district in Nottinghamshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was created by the Local Government Act 1894 as a successor to the Southwell rural sanitary district. It was amended in 1935 under a County Review Order by ceding a few parishes to the Newark Rural District and taking in a few from the disbanded Skegby Rural District.

Newark and Sherwood is a local government district and is the largest district in Nottinghamshire, England. The district is predominantly rural, with some large forestry plantations, the ancient Sherwood Forest and the towns of Newark-on-Trent, Southwell and Ollerton. Bramley apple

Malus domestica 'Bramley's Seedling' (commonly known as the Bramley apple, or simply Bramley, Bramleys or Bramley's) is a cultivar of apple which is usually eaten cooked due to its sourness. The Concise Household Encyclopedia states, "Some people eat this apple raw in order to cleanse the palate, but Bramley's seedling is essentially the fruit for tart, pie, or dumpling. " Once cooked, however, it has a lighter flavour.

Bilsthorpe

Bilsthorpe is a village in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 3,076. It is about five miles south of Ollerton, and near the junction of the A614 and A617. The village has 2 children's play-parks as well as a small sized duck-pond. It has also a members only fishing lake created from the remains of the old mines slag heap. The village's colliery closed in 1997 after 70 years in use.
