Birk Beck

Birk Beck is a minor river in Cumbria. Rising on the fells near Shap, Birk Beck runs south-by-south east, picking up Wasdale Beck (running east and draining Yarlside and Gargill) and Bretherdale Beck (flowing east from Demmings Moss and Bretherdale Bank) before falling into the River Lune near the head of the Lune Gorge by Castle Howe close to Old Tebay.

Borrowdale, Westmorland

Borrowdale is a valley in the English Lake District. It is located in the old county of Westmorland, and is sometimes referred to as Westmorland Borrowdale in order to distinguish it from a more famous Borrowdale located in the traditional county of Cumberland. The valley straddles the eastern border of the Lake District National Park, and is part of Cumbria.

Gaisgill railway station

Gaisgill railway station was situated on the South Durham & Lancashire Union Railway between Tebay and Kirkby Stephen East. It served the village of Gaisgill. The station opened to passenger traffic on 8 August 1861, and closed on 1 December 1952.

Holy Trinity Church, Howgill

Holy Trinity Church, Howgill, stands in a country lane near the hamlet of Howgill, between Sedbergh and Tebay, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican church in the deanery of Ewecross, the archdeaconry of Craven and the diocese of Bradford. The church has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building.

Grayrigg derailment

The Grayrigg derailment was a fatal railway accident that occurred at approximately 20:15 GMT on 23 February 2007, just to the south of Grayrigg, Cumbria, in the North West England region of the United Kingdom. The initial conclusion of the accident investigation is that the derailment was caused by a faulty set of points (number 2B), controlled from Lambrigg ground frame. The scheduled inspection on 18 February 2007 had not taken place and the faults had gone undetected.
