Salt, Staffordshire

Salt is a compact village three miles northeast of Stafford, England situated half a mile southwest of the A51 trunk road and lying on elevated ground above the western side of the Trent valley. The village has an ancient public house with a thatched roof, The Hollybush Inn, dating from the 17th century, reputedly much older, and a village hall. The village church is dedicated to St James the Great and was built on land donated by the Earl of Shrewsbury and largely paid for by him.

Battle of Hopton Heath

The Battle of Hopton Heath, in Staffordshire, was a battle of the First English Civil War, fought on Sunday 19 March 1643 between Parliamentarian forces led by Sir John Gell, 1st Baronet and Sir William Brereton and a Royalist force under Spencer Compton, 2nd Earl of Northampton.

Ingestre Hall

Ingestre Hall is a 17th century Jacobean mansion situated at Ingestre, near Stafford, Staffordshire, England, which is now in use as a Residential Arts and Conference Centre. It is a Grade II* listed building. Ingestre is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The manor was owned by the Mutton family in ancient times but was acquired by the Chetwynd family (whose later descendants became Barons Talbot) as a result of the marriage in the 13th century of the Ingestre heiress to Sir John Chetwynd.

Amerton Railway

The Amerton Railway is a 24 narrow gauge heritage railway in the English county of Staffordshire. It is owned by the Staffordshire Narrow Gauge Railway Society. Construction of the railway was begun in 1990 in a field at the side of Amerton Working Farm. The first trains ran in 1992, but it was around 10 years later when the railway was completed as a full circle with two passing loops.
