Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth

Not to be confused with Blackpool Sands, Blackpool. For the battle which took place here in 1404, see Battle of Blackpool Sands. Blackpool Sands is a beach in Dartmouth, Devon, England named after the nearby village of Blackpool. It has been increasingly encroached on each year since 1933. In 1989 the sea broke the defences, severely damaging seaside properties and threatening the A379 road.

Warfleet Creek

Warfleet Creek is a small triangular tidal inlet in the west side of the River Dart estuary in England. It is near Dartmouth, Devon. It has steep rocky sides. At low tide there is a stony beach with some small rockpools.

Dartmouth Castle

Dartmouth Castle is one of a pair of forts, the other being Kingswear Castle, that guard the mouth of the Dart Estuary in Devon, England. A small fortalice (coastal fort) was built in 1388 under the direction of John Hawley (rumoured to be the basis for the Shipman in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales). The present Guntower building is the earliest surviving English coastal fortress specifically built to carry guns.

Bayard's Cove Fort

Bayard's Cove Fort is a small early Tudor artillery fort, built to defend the harbour entrance at Dartmouth, Devon, England. The tower was a third means of defence for the port, providing additional fire to protect the port should any enemy ships have broken past Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle at the entrance of the cove. Today, the site is owned by English Heritage, and sits at the end of the pier as an open shell.
