Plumpton Racecourse

Plumpton Racecourse is a National Hunt (jumping) horse-racing course at the village of Plumpton, East Sussex near Lewes and Brighton. One of the smaller National Hunt race courses in Britain, it is rather hilly, a tightish left-handed circuit of just over a mile. The hurdle course is now situated on the outside of the chase course: both share the same uphill finish.

Hassocks F.C

Hassocks F.C. is a football club based in Hassocks, near Brighton, West Sussex, England. The club is affiliated to the Sussex County Football Association. The club joined the Sussex County League Division Two in 1981 and has reached the 2nd round of the FA Vase three times in its history, and the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2001–02.

Clayton Tunnel rail crash

The Clayton Tunnel rail crash, which took place on Sunday 25 August 1861, five miles from Brighton on the south coast of England, was the worst accident of the British railway system to that time. Two trains collided inside the tunnel, killing 23 and injuring 176 passengers. The disaster scenario actually involved three successive northbound trains on the same track, which all left Brighton station within a few minutes of one another.

Stanmer House

Stanmer House is a Grade I listed mansion west of the village of Falmer and north-east of the city of Brighton and Hove. It stands very close to Stanmer village and Church, within the Stanmer Park. Constructed by the French architect Nicholas Dubois in 1722 in a Palladian style for the Pelham family, it incorporates the remains of an earlier house, and was again altered in 1860.
