Ross Creek Bridge

Ross Creek Bridge is a former railway bridge, now used as a pedestrian walkway in Ross Bridge park, Hoover, Alabama, USA. The text of the sign posted nearby by the Hoover Historical Society reads as follows: "In 1858 James Taylor Ross, a Scotchman migrated to the South, acquired land and homesteaded in what is now Shades Valley. He provided land for the construction of a railway, including a bridge spanning Ross Creek.

Conasauga shale

The Conasauga Shale is a Cambrian geologic unit in the Appalachian thrust and fault region of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. The formation consists of shales and carbonates that have structurally thickened to over 15,000 feet in certain areas by successive orogenic events impacting the southern Appalachians. Shale gas is being produced from the unit in some areas.

Choccolocco, Alabama

Choccolocco is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,804. It was founded in 1832. The community gained brief notoriety in 2001 when The Daily Show aired a piece on the "Choccolocco Monster", a part of local folklore concerning sightings of a mysterious creature in the area in the late 1960s.

GP Express Flight 861

GP Express Airlines Flight 861, from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia to Anniston Metropolitan Airport in Anniston, Alabama, crashed while attempting to land at approximately 8:04 a.m. CDT on June 8, 1992. The Beechcraft Model 99 had four passengers and a crew of two on board. There were three survivors. Two passengers and the captain received fatal injuries.
