Girard, Alabama
Girard, Alabama was a town in the far north-east corner of Russell County, Alabama across the Chattahoochee River from Columbus, Georgia. From 1832–1839 Girard was the seat of Russell County. In 1923 Girard was annexed by Phenix City, Alabama. At some point around this time the boundary of Russell County was moved north to take in Phenix City.

Mead Observatory
Mead Observatory is operated by Columbus State University's Coca-Cola Space Science Center at 701 Front Avenue, Columbus, Georgia. Established in 1996, the observatory has active night sky and solar study programs for students and the general public.
