The station was assigned the WBPT call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on October 17, 2001. Since October 2005, it has used the branding "106.9 the Eagle". The station is owned by Cox Radio, along with six other stations in the cluster. Its transmitter is located atop Red Mountain in Birmingham.
