Russell County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. Its name is in honor of Colonel Gilbert C. Russell, who fought in the wars against the Creek Indians. As of the 2010 census, the population was 52,947. Its county seat is Phenix City. Russell County is part of the Columbus, Georgia-Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area.

A post office is located in the community. It is about 20 miles south of Columbus, Georgia on State Route 165 (Alabama). It is the location of Apalachicola Fort Site, a National Historic Landmark.
