Heber-Overgaard, Arizona

Heber-Overgaard is a census-designated place (CDP) in Navajo County, Arizona, United States. Situated atop the Mogollon Rim, the community lies at an elevation of around 6,500 feet . The population was 2,722 at the 2000 census. Heber was founded in 1876 or 1877, by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), and the town is named after Heber J. Grant, a prominent Mormon. The Heber post office was established in 1890.

Sitgreaves National Forest

Sitgreaves National Forest was established by the U.S. Forest Service in Arizona on July 1, 1908 with 749,084 acres from portions of Black Mesa and Tonto National Forests. In 1974 entire forest was administratively combined with Apache National Forest to create Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. The Sitgreaves National Forest is located in the southern parts of Navajo, Coconino, and Apache counties. It had an area of 818,749 acres (3,313.4 km²) as of 30 September 2008.

Black Canyon Lake

Black Canyon Lake is a lake the Arizona Game and Fish Department built in the 1960s along the Mogollon Rim to provide water recreation opportunities for the public. Despite being affected by the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski Fire, Black Canyon Lake remains a popular and beautiful spot for picnics, camping and fishing. Because of the fire, the entire area around Black Canyon Lake is open for day use only due to the danger of falling trees.

Travis Walton

Travis Walton (born February 10, 1953) is an American logger who claims to have been abducted by a UFO on November 5, 1975, while working with a logging crew in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona. Walton could not be found, but reappeared after a five-day search. The Walton case received mainstream publicity and remains one of the best-known instances of alleged alien abduction.
