Located in southern Columbia County, Emerson High School is one of three public high schools in the county and one of two high school administered by the Emerson–Taylor School District. Emerson derives its name from Reuben Logan Emerson, an early settler of Columbia County, who was a teacher, merchant, banker, owner of the newspaper The Columbia Banner, and state representative. In 1905, he also founded the city which today bears his name. Emerson celebrated its 100th birthday February 8, 2005.
