Athens is an unincorporated community in the northeastern corner of Howard County, Arkansas, Arkansas, United States. It is located at the junction of Arkansas Highways 246 and 84. It includes (or is the nearest community to) a number of historic places, including the following ones which are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Bard Springs Bathhouse, FS Rd. 106 NW of Athens, Caney Cr. Little Missouri Falls

The Little Missouri Falls is a sizable waterfall on the upper reaches of the Little Missouri River in southwest Arkansas in the Ouachita National Forest. It is a stair-step fall in a deep gorge. The falls can be reached by an all-weather gravel road, and there is a parking area with restrooms and a paved trail leading to observation sites. Water flow is greatest during the winter and spring months.

2010 Arkansas floods

The June 2010 Arkansas floods were flash floods that killed at least 20 people near Langley, Arkansas, United States, in the early morning of June 11, 2010. Heavy, localized rainfall from six to eight inches (150–200 mm) flooded the Little Missouri and Caddo rivers, sweeping through campsites in the Ouachita National Forest.
