Paragould, Arkansas

Paragould is a city in Greene County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 26,113 at the 2010 U.S. Census. The city's name is a blend combining the last names of competing railroad magnates J.W. Paramore and Jay Gould. Paramore’s Texas & Saint Louis Railway (later the Cotton Belt) and Gould’s St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway (later the Missouri Pacific) intersected here in 1882.

Paragould High School

Paragould High School is a public school serving grades nine through twelve located in Paragould, Arkansas. The campus is located at 1701 West Court Street in Paragould and is administered by Paragould School District. Oak Grove High School and Paragould High School consolidated into Ridgecrest High School in the late 1980s and it was voted to change the nickname to the Rams to accommodate this consolidation. In 1998, the school's name was changed back to Paragould High School.

Paragould meteorite

The Paragould Meteorite at 16 inches by 41 inches by 24 inches and weighing 370 kilograms is the second largest meteorite ever recovered in North America and the largest stony meteorite chondrite. It fell to Earth at approximately 4:08 a.m. on February 17, 1930. The fireball could be seen as far away as Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, and of course, Arkansas. Initially, observers thought it was an airplane crashing. The meteorite split into many pieces.
