Holy Cross Lutheran Church (Atwater, California)

Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod located in Atwater, California. It is part of the LCMS' California-Nevada-Hawaii District. Established in 1956, the congregation celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006. In February 2008, Atwater mayor Joan Faul called the church "a real cornerstone of our community."

Castle Air Force Base

Castle Air Force Base (1941–1995) is a former United States Air Force Strategic Air Command base located northeast of Atwater, northwest of Merced and about 123 miles east southeast of San Francisco, California. The base, located in unincorporated Merced County, was closed after the end of the Cold War in 1995. It is now known as the Castle Airport Aviation and Development Center.
