Historic Core, Los Angeles

The Historic Core is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles between Hill and Main streets on the west and east, and 3rd and 9th streets on the north and south. It overlaps with the Jewelry District on its western end and Skid Row on its eastern end. It was the center of the city before World War II.

Parker Center

Parker Center was the headquarters for the Los Angeles Police Department from 1954 until October 2009 and is located in Downtown LA. The building was named for former LAPD chief William H. Parker. Originally called the Police Administration Building (PAB), groundbreaking for the center broken on December 30, 1952, and construction was completed in 1955. The architect was Welton Becket. The building combined police facilities that had been located throughout the Civic Center area.

The Smell

The Smell is an all ages, alcohol and drug-free punk rock/noise/experimental venue in Downtown Los Angeles, California. The Smell, notable for its DIY ethic, is home to many of the area's avant-garde performers and artists. The venue is maintained by Jim Smith, one of the four original organizers of the club, a constantly evolving group of volunteers, and the Danny and Frank security street team.
