Kimberlina Solar Thermal Energy Plant

The 5 megawatt (MW) Kimberlina Solar Thermal Energy Plant in Bakersfield, California is the first commercial solar thermal power plant to be built by Areva Solar. Completed in 2008, he Kimberlina renewable energy solar boiler uses Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector (CLFR) technology to generate superheated steam. Each solar boiler has a group of 13 narrow, flat mirrors, that individually track and focus the sun's heat onto overhead pipes carrying water. The water boils directly into steam.

Calloway Canal

Calloway Canal is an irrigation canal in Kern County, California. It originates from the Kern River, just east of Golden State Highway in Bakersfield. It terminates at reservoirs located south of Whisler Road and east of SR 99 (Golden State Freeway), near McFarland. From the diversion, the canal travels west, around industrial development before turning southwest. After crossing Rosedale Highway, the canal makes a 120 degree turn, traveling northwest.

Famoso Raceway

The Famoso Raceway dragstrip is located north of Bakersfield, California, and is known historically as the home to the annual March Meet, also known as the U.S. Fuel and Gas Championships. The strip, located on Famoso Road between Highway 99 and Highway 65 east of the Highway 99 and Highway 46 interchange, was originally built in World War II as an auxiliary training base for the nearby Army Air Corps training base at Shafter's Minter Field. After World War II, the Army abandoned the field.

North Kern Golf Course

North Kern Golf Course is an 18-hole public golf course located in Kern County, California. It is north of Bakersfield and east of Shafter. The course is 6,754 yards on slightly hilly terrain. It was opened in 1953. It is one of three golf courses owned and managed by the County of Kern Parks & Recreation division. The course contains no water hazards; however, it does have long par 4 holes. For example, the 16th hole is a 468-yard par 4.
