Bonny Dam

Bonny Dam (National ID # CO01300) is a dam in Yuma County, Colorado, in the eastern part of the state. The earthen dam was constructed between 1948 and 1951 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, with a height of 158 feet and 9200 feet long at its crest. It impounds the South Fork of the Republican River for flood control, irrigation storage and recreation, as part of the Bureau's extensive Pick-Sloan Missouri Basin Program. The dam is owned and operated by the Bureau.

Battle of Beecher Island

The Battle of Beecher Island, also known as the Battle of Arikaree Fork, was an armed conflict between elements of the United States Army and several of the Plains native American tribes in September 1868. Beecher Island, on the Arikaree River, then known as part of the North Fork of the Republican River, near present-day Wray, Colorado, was named afterwards for Lieutenant Fredrick H. Beecher, an army officer killed during the battle.
