Wilkerson Pass

. Wilkerson Pass (el. 9507 ft./2898 m. ) is a high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains within Pike National Forest of Colorado and marks the eastern boundary of South Park (Colorado basin). The pass is traversed by U.S. Highway 24 with a Forest Service visitor center at the summit along with a few short trails. The summit has a mild approach on both sides and does not cause problems for vehicles in winter, generally.

Tarryall Creek

Tarryall Creek is a tributary of the South Platte River, approximately 68.5 miles long, in Park County in central Colorado in the United States. It drains a rural portion of north and central South Park, an intermontane grassland in the Rocky Mountains southwest of Denver. It rises in the high Rockies in several forks along the Continental Divide in the Pike National Forest southwest of Boreas Pass.

1997 Western Plains winter storms

The 1997 Western Plains winter storms comprised a system of extreme snowfall and wind from October 24 - October 26, 1997. The storms resulted in 13 deaths, and caused power outages and school closings lasting up to a week in affected areas. The event was billed by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as being a "two-hundred year storm". The wind caused much damage, downing trees and power poles.
