Vernon is a census-designated place and a U.S. Post Office located in Yuma County, Colorado, United States. The population as of the 2010 Census was 29. The Vernon Post Office has the ZIP Code 80755. Vernon also has an excellent volunteer Fire Department, which belongs to the Yuma County Fire Protection District. The town of Vernon still has the "old school" which is now the Vernon Community Center. This building hosts many events for clubs and organizations.

North Fork Republican River

The North Fork Republican River is a 55.4-mile-long tributary of the Republican River. It flows eastward from a source in Yuma County, Colorado to just north of Hagler in Dundy County, Nebraska. There it joins with the Arikaree River to form the Republican River.

Battle of Beecher Island

The Battle of Beecher Island, also known as the Battle of Arikaree Fork, was an armed conflict between elements of the United States Army and several of the Plains native American tribes in September 1868. Beecher Island, on the Arikaree River, then known as part of the North Fork of the Republican River, near present-day Wray, Colorado, was named afterwards for Lieutenant Fredrick H. Beecher, an army officer killed during the battle.
