Ben Hill County, Georgia

Ben Hill County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. The constitutional amendment to create the county was proposed July 31, 1906 and ratified November 6, 1906. As of 2000, the population was 17,484. The 2007 Census Estimate placed the population at 17,650. The county seat is Fitzgerald. Ben Hill County is part of the Fitzgerald Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Atlantic Plain

The Atlantic Plain is one of eight distinct United States physiographic regions. This major division consists of the Continental Shelf and Coastal Plain physiographic provinces. It is the flattest of the U.S. physiographic divisions and stretches over 2,200 miles in length from Cape Cod to the Mexican border and southward another 1,000 miles to the Yucatán Peninsula. The central and southern Atlantic Coast is characterized by barrier and drowned valley coasts.

Cotton Belt (region)

For the railroad called "Cotton Belt," see St. Louis Southwestern Railway. Cotton Belt is a term applied to a region of the southern United States where cotton was the predominant cash crop from the late 18th century into the 20th century. Before the invention of the cotton gin in 1793, cotton production was limited to coastal plain areas of South Carolina and Georgia, and, on a smaller scale, along the lower Mississippi River.
