The University of West Georgia is a comprehensive doctoral-granting university in Carrollton, Georgia, approximately 45 miles (80 km) west of Atlanta, Georgia. The University is built on 645 acres (2 km²) including a recent land gift of 246 acres (1 km²) from the city of Carrollton in 2003. Off-campus classes are available in Dalton, Newnan, Georgia Highlands College in Rome, and at several other community locations throughout the state. It has an enrollment of about 11,600 students.

University Stadium is a new on-campus stadium in Carrollton, Georgia. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the University of West Georgia Wolves. The stadium holds 9,500 people and opened in 2009. In 2003, the University of West Georgia acquired 250 acres from the city of Carrollton for the purpose of creating a stadium and athletic complex.

Atlantic Southeast Airlines Flight 529 was an Embraer Brasilia aircraft that crashed near Carrollton, Georgia in the United States on August 21, 1995 while on a flight from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport in Gulfport, Mississippi. Nine of the 29 passengers and crew on board were killed as a result of the accident.

Grisham Stadium
Grisham Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Carrollton, Georgia. The stadium is home to the football program from Carrollton High School and is also the former home field for the University of West Georgia. Grisham Stadium is currently undergoing extensive renovations, which include a state-of-the-art artificial track and field, complete visitor's locker rooms, and updated concessions. A new grand entrance will be incorporated in 2008-2009 to include a brick memorial walkway.
