Suches, Georgia

Suches is an unincorporated area in Union County, Georgia, United States. With an altitude approaching 3,000 feet, Suches describes itself as "The Valley Above The Clouds"' and is one of the highest-elevation communities in the state. It is the birthplace of Arthur Woody, a forest ranger who was a key figure in the early history of Chattahoochee National Forest. Suches is about a mile from the Appalachian Trail (AT) as it goes through Woody Gap.

Dockery Lake Recreation Area

Dockery Lake Recreation Area, located in northeast Georgia near the town of Dahlonega, is a US Forest Service campground and day-use area constructed next to a small pond. The area, operated by the Forestry Service's Brasstown Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest, is nestled among the Cedar Ridge range of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Situated on a small tributary to Waters Creek, Dockery Lake is a 6-acre man-made lake stocked with trout.

Lake Winfield Scott

Lake Winfield Scott is an 18-acre mountain pond located 10 miles south of Blairsville, Georgia in Union County. The lake, which is owned and managed by the U.S. Forest Service, is the source of Cooper Creek. It is the centerpiece of the Forest Service's Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area, a park which features hiking, fishing, boating and other outdoor activities. At 2,854 feet elevation it is one of Georgia's highest altitude lakes.

Duncan Ridge Trail

The Duncan Ridge Trail is a hiking trail that has been designated as a National Recreation Trail in Georgia. The trail is 35.5 miles (53.25 km. ) long and traverses mountains, descends into valleys and features scenic viewpoints and waterfalls. It is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest and is maintained by the U.S. Forest Service in the Brasstown and Toccoa Ranger Districts.
