Advanced Technology Solar Telescope

The Advanced Technology Solar Telescope (ATST) is a large domed solar telescope facility that is planned to be built by the National Solar Observatory atop the Haleakala volcano on the Pacific island of Maui. The site was selected for its clear daytime atmospheric seeing conditions, which will enable study of the solar corona. The ATST enclosure will house a 4-meter diameter solar telescope capable of observing objects on the Sun that are 30 km across.

Pan-STARRS

The Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) is an array of astronomical cameras and telescopes and computing facility that is surveying the sky on a continual basis, including accurate astrometry and photometry of detected objects. By detecting any differences from previous observations of the same areas of the sky, it is expected to discover a very large number of new asteroids, comets, variable stars and other celestial objects.

3.67 m Advanced Electro Optical System Telescope

The 3.67 m Advanced Electro Optical System Telescope is a Department of Defense telescope at Haleakala Observatory. The 3.67-meter telescope, known as the Advanced Electro-Optical System (AEOS), owned by the Department of Defense, is the United States' largest optical telescope designed for tracking satellites. The 75-ton AEOS telescope points and tracks very accurately, yet is fast enough to track both low-Earth satellites and ballistic missiles.

Haleakala Observatory

The Haleakalā Observatory on the island of Maui, also known as the Haleakalā High Altitude Observatory Site, is the location of Hawaii's first astronomical research observatory. It is owned by the Institute for Astronomy of the University of Hawai'i, which operates some of the facilities on the site and leases portions to other organizations. Tenants include the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (LCOGTN).
