Prairie du Rocher, Illinois

Prairie du Rocher ("Rock Prairie" in French) is a village in Randolph County, Illinois, United States. Founded in the French colonial period in the American Midwest, the community is located near bluffs that flank the east side of the Mississippi River along the floodplain often called the "American Bottom". The population was 604 at the 2010 census. Prairie du Rocher is one of the oldest communities founded as a French settlement that survives in the 21st century.

Chester Non-High School District 122

Chester Non-High School District 112 is the only remaining non-high school district in Illinois; the district provides for the tuition and transportation of local eighth-grade school graduates to nearby high schools. The district is the western corner of Randolph County, containing the village of Prairie du Rocher, and is coextensive with Prairie du Rocher Community Consolidated School District 134.

Modoc Rock Shelter

Modoc Rock Shelter is a rock cliff at the edge of the Mississippi River Valley that was undercut by Ice Age floods. This site is significant for its archaeological evidence of the Archaic period in the Eastern United States. The site has over 28 feet of sediment that contain artifacts.

Modoc, Illinois

Modoc is an unincorporated community in Randolph County, Illinois, United States, located 4 miles southeast of Prairie du Rocher under the bluffs of the Mississippi River. The Modoc Rock Shelter, a U.S. National Historic Landmark, is located near Modoc and the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry across the Mississippi River connects Modoc and the surrounding communities with Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. The area's population was 221 at the 2000 census.
