Bainbridge, Indiana

Bainbridge is a town in Monroe Township, Putnam County, Indiana, United States. The population was 746 at the 2010 census. This town was named after the prominent war hero of the time, William Bainbridge. He was one of the captains of the original six frigates of the US navy. When Indiana officially became a state in 1816, Bainbridge's name was as well known and revered then as any celebrity today. He is perhaps most notoriously known, however, for grounding the U.S.S.

Baker's Camp Covered Bridge

Baker's Camp Covered Bridge, also known as Hillis Bridge, is a covered bridge in northern Putnam County, Indiana, east of the town of Bainbridge. It carries County Road E 650 North over Big Walnut Creek, about 1.25 miles south of the road's intersection with U.S. 36. Built in 1901 by J. J. Daniels, the bridge is 128 feet long, 14 feet wide, and 13 feet high. It is an example of the Burr arch truss design.
