Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 710, a Lockheed L-188 Electra, disintegrated in-flight and crashed near Cannelton, Indiana on March 17, 1960. The flight carried 57 passengers and 6 crew members. There were no survivors.

Cannelton, Indiana
Cannelton is a city in Troy Township, Perry County, Indiana, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,563 at the 2010 census. Cannelton, which is the smallest incorporated city in the state, was formerly the county seat of Perry County until the seat was relocated to Tell City. The name Cannelton was adopted in 1844 is derived from the cannel coal that was once mined in the area.

Cannelton High School
Cannelton High School is a high school in Cannelton, Indiana. Their mascot is the Bulldog. Cannelton's school colors are Black and Gold. Cannelton played in the Pocket Athletic Conference from the conference's creation in 1938 until 1971, when it became independent. It is the second smallest public high school in the state of Indiana. The high school building, built in 1922, serves as the Jr/Sr high school building. It is one of three high schools in Perry County, Indiana.

Bob Cummings – Lincoln Trail Bridge
The Bob Cummings – Lincoln Trail Bridge crosses the Ohio River and connects the towns of Cannelton, Indiana and Hawesville, Kentucky. Indiana State Road 237 becomes Kentucky Route 69 upon entering Hawesville. Construction began in June 1964 and the bridge opened on December 21, 1966. The steel arch bridge with its suspended deck was a toll facility until the state of Indiana lifted the tolls in the 1990s.
