Evarts is a city in Harlan County, Kentucky, United States. The post office was opened on February 9, 1855 and named for one of the area's pioneer families. The population was 1,101 at the 2000 census and shrunk to an estimated 1,027 in 2008.

Harlan County, Kentucky

Harlan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1819. As of 2010, the population was 29,278. Its county seat is Harlan. The Commonwealth's highest natural point, Black Mountain (4,145 feet), is in Harlan County. With regard to the sale of alcohol, it is classified as a moist county—a county in which alcohol sales are prohibited, but containing a "wet" city, in this case Cumberland, where package alcohol sales are allowed.

Martins Fork Lake

Martins Fork Lake is a 340-acre reservoir in Harlan County, Kentucky. The lake was impounded from a branch of the Cumberland River in 1979 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. It is named for James Martin, an early pioneer in the area.
