Tensas River

The Tensas River /ˈtɛnsɔː/ is a river in Louisiana in the United States. The river, known as Tensas Bayou in its upper reaches, begins in East Carroll Parish in the northeast corner of the state and runs roughly southwest for 177 miles more or less in parallel with the Mississippi River. The Tensas River merges with the Ouachita River in Jonesville in Catahoula Parish to become the Black River, not to be confused with Black Lake in Natchitoches Parish in north central Louisiana.

Bayou Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge

Bayou Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1992 to preserve waterfowl habitat and hardwood forest of the lower Mississippi river. The 13,200-acre refuge is located in Concordia Parish, Louisiana, 10 miles southwest of Vidalia, Louisiana. It is named for the state-designated scenic river of Bayou Cocodrie. The Nature Conservancy purchased an 11,403-acre core tract in 1991 from the Fisher Lumber Company, a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation.

Long-Allen Bridge (Jonesville)

The Long-Allen Bridge was a two-lane swing bridge carrying US 84 across the Black River at Jonesville in Concordia Parish. It was replaced by a larger bridge in 2009. The newer structure carries 4 lanes of traffic and was built at a cost of $8,610,000.

Jonesville, Louisiana

Jonesville is a town in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, at the confluence of the Ouachita, Tensas, and Little rivers. The three rivers become the Black River at Jonesville though the "Black" is primarily the continuation of the Ouachita River. A new bridge has been built over the Black River. After some miles, the Black flows into the Red River. The Jonesville population was 2,469 at the 2000 census. The parish seat is Harrisonburg to the north, which is actually smaller than Jonesville.
