Destrehan, Louisiana

Destrehan is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 11,535 at the 2010 census, an increase of 275 over the 2000 tabulation of 11,260. It is 79 percent white. The community is named after Jean N. Destréhan (1754–1823) who served as President of the Territorial Council and was appointed to the United States Senate in 1812, but resigned before he took his seat.

Pan Am Flight 759

Pan Am Flight 759, operated by a Boeing 727-235, N4737 Clipper Defiance, was a regularly scheduled passenger flight from Miami to San Diego, with en route stops in New Orleans and Las Vegas. On July 9, 1982, the plane that made this route was forced down by wind shear due to a microburst and crashed into the New Orleans suburb of Kenner. All 145 people on board, as well as 8 on the ground, were killed.

Kenner (historically French: Cannes-Brûlées is a city in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States, and a suburb of New Orleans. The population was 66,702 at the 2010 census. Kenner is represented in the Louisiana House of Representatives by the Republican attorney Tom Willmott. The state senator is Republican Danny Martiny, a former state House member. Martiny's predecessor in the House is Kernan "Skip" Hand, a retired district court judge from Kenner.
