Wye Oak

The Wye Oak was the honorary state tree of Maryland, and the largest white oak tree in the United States. Located in the town of Wye Mills, Talbot County, Maryland, the Wye Oak was believed to be over 460 years old at the time of its destruction during a severe thunderstorm on June 6, 2002, and measured 31 feet 10 inches (970 cm) in circumference of the trunk at diameter at breast height, 96 feet (29 m) high, with a crown spread of 119 feet (36 m).

Wye Mills, Maryland

Wye Mills is an unincorporated community in Talbot County, Maryland, United States, located at an altitude of 13 feet (4 m). It is the home of the Wye Grist Mill which has been in nearly continuous operation since 1682, and Wye Oak (Maryland's honorary state tree, which was destroyed in a June 6, 2002, severe thunderstorm) and of Chesapeake College.

Chesapeake College

Chesapeake College is the first regional community college on Maryland's Eastern Shore. It is a two-year college that provides Associate degrees, certificates and other programs. The main campus is located in Wye Mills, Maryland, at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Maryland Route 213. There is a satellite campus in Cambridge, Maryland. It serves the five Mid-Shore counties: Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, and Talbot.

Maryland's 1st congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Maryland. The district encompasses the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland, including Salisbury, as well as parts of Baltimore, Harford, and Carroll counties. The district is currently represented by Republican Andy Harris, who defeated Democratic incumbent Frank M. Kratovil, Jr. in 2010.
