On October 20, 1973, Family Stations, Inc. , acquired the station to be part of its Family Radio network and changed the call letters to WYFR. It is located on First Parish Rd. , within walking distance of Lawson Tower and Scituate High School. It is named from a former Scituate selectman and Grand Master Mason, Lester J. Gates. It used to be Scituate High School until the present-day Scituate High School was built.
