Big Bay, Michigan
Big Bay is an unincorporated community in Marquette County of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes and does not have any legal status as an incorporated municipality. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 265. The community is located within Powell Township near the shore of "Big Bay" on Lake Superior.

Yellow Dog River
The Yellow Dog River flows through Marquette County in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is 31.6 miles in length, with about 85 miles of tributaries. The main branch begins at the outflow from Bulldog Lake in the Ottawa National Forest on the boundary between Baraga and Marquette counties. The river's mouth is on Lake Independence, near Big Bay, Michigan, and is part of the Lake Superior watershed. A section of the Yellow Dog River is a National Wild and Scenic River.

Lake Independence
Lake Independence is located in Marquette County in the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. The lake is fed primarily by the Yellow Dog River. The lake is naturally occurring, but its level has been stabilized and raised slightly to 625 feet above mean sea level by a dam. Outflow is the short Iron River, which flows slightly over one mile into Lake Superior.

Dead River (Michigan)
The Dead River is a 43.2-mile-long river in Marquette County, Michigan. Its watershed is approximately 400 square miles in size. The river flows southeasterly from western Marquette County to its mouth on Lake Superior. As of 2003, five dams existed on the river: Silver Lake Dam, Hoist Dam, McClure Dam, Forestville Dam, and Tourist Park Dam. Hoist and McClure are hydroelectric dams. Silver Lake and Tourist Park failed in May 2003.
