Copper Country
The Copper Country is an area in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the United States, including all of Keweenaw County, Michigan and most of Houghton, Baraga and Ontonagon counties. The area is so named as copper mining was prevalent there from 1845 until the late 1960s, with one mine (the White Pine mine) continuing through 1995. In its heyday, the area was the world's greatest producer of copper.

WGGL-FM
WGGL-FM is a radio station broadcasting for NPR. Licensed to Houghton, Michigan, it first began broadcasting in 1968 and has been owned and operated by Minnesota Public Radio since 1982. It carries a mix of classical music and NPR news/talk programming, running a schedule similar to what MPR ran before its 1991 split into a two-channel network. WGGL began operations on March 28, 1968, as a ten-watt station owned and operated by Michigan Technological University.

WBKP
WBKP is the CW-affiliated television station for Michigan's Central Upper Peninsula and is licensed to Calumet. It broadcasts a standard definition digital signal on VHF channel 5 from a transmitter on Tolonen Hill in unincorporated Painesdale of Adams Township. The station can also be seen on Charter channel 2. Owned by the Marks Radio Group, WBKP is sister to ABC affiliate WBUP and the two stations share studios on Ash Street in Ishpeming of Ishpeming Township.
