The CDP is used for statistical purposes and has no legal status as a municipality. The population was 1,187 at the 2000 census. The CDP area is centered around two small lakes in north-central Lapeer County: Barnes Lake and Millers Lake . M-24 runs between the lakes, with Barnes Lake on the east and Millers Lake on the west.

WMPC is owned and operated by the Calvary Bible Church of Lapeer, Michigan. The station began broadcasting on December 6, 1926 from a homemade transmitter in the Methodist Protestant Church. In fact thats where WMPC gets its name. Later the church changed its name to the Calvary Bible Church.
