Mullett Township, Michigan

Mullett Township is a civil township of Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,284 at the 2000 census. Both the township and Mullett Lake are named for John Mullett, who surveyed much of the area between 1840 and 1843. When Mullett Township was created by the Michigan Legislature, it was spelled Mullet—a spelling that was widely used in early maps and documents.

Burt Lake

Burt Lake is a 17,120 acre (69 km²) lake in Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The western shore of the lake is on the boundary with Emmet County. The lake is named after William Austin Burt, who, together with John Mullett, made a federal survey of the area from 1840 to 1843. The lake is approximately 10 miles (16 km) long from north to south, about 5 miles (8 km) at its widest, and 73 feet (22 m) at its deepest.

The Inland Waterway or Inland Water Route is a series of rivers and lakes in the U.S. state of Michigan. With only a short portage, it forms a navigable route for small craft connecting Lake Huron and Lake Michigan across the Northern Michigan region. The route is in Emmet and Cheboygan counties and consists of Round Lake, Iduna Creek, Crooked Lake, Crooked River, Burt Lake, Indian River, Mullett Lake, and the Cheboygan River.

Cheboygan County, Michigan

Cheboygan County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the population was 26,448. The county seat is Cheboygan. The name of the county shares the same origin as that of the Cheboygan River, although the precise meaning is no longer known. It may have come from an Ojibwe word zhaabonigan meaning "sewing needle". Alternatively, the origin may have been "Chabwegan," meaning "a place of ore".
