Moscow Township, Michigan

Moscow Township is a civil township of Hillsdale County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,445 at the 2000 census. The headwaters for the south branch of the Kalamazoo River arise in the south of the township. There is a Headwaters Park located on U.S. Highway 12 near the Township Hall. According to the township web page, Moscow was first called "Little Kalamazoo," and that the name Moscow was chosen by drawing the name out of a hat. Moscow Township was established in 1835.

Kalamazoo River

The Kalamazoo River is a river in the U.S. state of Michigan. The river is 130 miles long from the junction of its North and South branches to its mouth at Lake Michigan, with a total length extending to 178 miles when one includes the South Branch. The river's watershed drains an area of approximately 2,020 square miles and drains portions of eight counties in southwest Michigan: Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Jackson, Hillsdale, Kent and Ottawa.

Grand River (Michigan)

The Grand River is the longest river in the U.S. state of Michigan. It runs 252 miles through the cities of Jackson, Eaton Rapids, Lansing, Grand Ledge, Portland, Ionia, Lowell, Grand Rapids, and Grand Haven. Native Americans who lived along the river before the arrival of the French and British called the river O-wash-ta-nong, meaning Far-away-water, because of its length.
