Humboldt, Minnesota

Humboldt is a city in Kittson County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 45 at the 2010 census. The city is reportedly named after Alexander von Humboldt who was actively exploring in the Americas and later operating as a diplomat (and therefore his exploits were widely published) over the period 1797-1858. The first school was opened in 1882.

2011 Red River flood

The 2011 Red River flood took place along the Red River of the North in Manitoba in Canada and North Dakota and Minnesota in the United States beginning in April 2011. The flood was, in part, due to high moisture levels in the soil from the previous year which meant that further accumulation would threaten the flood prone region. Flood predictors were worried of a dual crest of both the Assiniboine River and the Red striking Winnipeg at the same time.

Little Joe River

The Little Joe River is a 9.4-mile-long watercourse in northwestern Minnesota. It is a tributary of the north branch of the Two Rivers, which drains into the Red River of the North.

Noyes, Minnesota

Noyes is an unincorporated community in St. Vincent Township, Kittson County, Minnesota, United States. Located in the extreme northwestern corner of the state on the Canada-United States border, it was an important border-crossing location going back to the days of ox roads and later was one of the busiest ports of entry west of the Great Lakes for rail and road traffic. The town of Emerson, Manitoba is located only a few feet from Noyes on the Canadian side of the border.

Fort Dufferin

Fort Dufferin was a Canadian government post located in southern Manitoba near the Canada-United States border at Emerson. Used during the 1870s, the fort was a base for the North American Boundary Commission and the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP), and later used as an immigration station.
