Noyes, Minnesota
Noyes is an unincorporated community in St. Vincent Township, Kittson County, Minnesota, United States. Located in the extreme northwestern corner of the state on the Canada-United States border, it was an important border-crossing location going back to the days of ox roads and later was one of the busiest ports of entry west of the Great Lakes for rail and road traffic. The town of Emerson, Manitoba is located only a few feet from Noyes on the Canadian side of the border.

Red River Colony
The Red River Colony (or Selkirk Settlement) was a colonization project set up by Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk in 1811 on 300,000 square kilometres of land granted to him by the Hudson's Bay Company under what is referred to as the Selkirk Concession. The colony along the Red River of the North was never very successful.

Fort Dufferin
Fort Dufferin was a Canadian government post located in southern Manitoba near the Canada-United States border at Emerson. Used during the 1870s, the fort was a base for the North American Boundary Commission and the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP), and later used as an immigration station.

Pembina River (Manitoba – North Dakota)
The Pembina River is a tributary of the Red River of the North, approximately 319 miles long, in southern Manitoba in Canada and northeastern North Dakota in the United States. It drains an area (about 8500 square kilometers) of the prairie country along the U.S. -Canada border, threading the Manitoba-North Dakota border eastward to the Red River. Via the Red River, Lake Winnipeg and the Nelson River, it is part of the watershed of Hudson Bay.
