Silver Lake is a small freshwater prairie lake in Northwestern Minnesota. It is located three miles (5 km) south of the town of Hawley. The lake has one public access located off County Road 12 which includes a boat ramp, small grass beach. and parking for around 5 vehicles. Its proximity to the Fargo-Moorhead metro area and the lakes' area makes it attractive for recreational use. It sees relatively heavy use for activities such as fishing, swimming, and water sports.

Hawley, Minnesota
Hawley is a town in Clay County, Minnesota, United States, along the Buffalo River. The population was 2,067 at the 2010 census. The town went through six quick name changes after 1871 until, in 1872, it was finally named after Thomas Hawley Canfield, an officer in the Northern Pacific Railway, which laid out the town. General Custer visited the town in 1876. In 2007 the town started an ad campaign called "Hawley Would".

Clay County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 58,999. Its name is in honor of American statesman Henry Clay, member of the United States Senate from Kentucky and United States Secretary of State in the 19th century. Its county seat is Moorhead. It was originally called Breckenridge County, but changed to its current name in 1862. Clay County is part of the Fargo-Moorhead, ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area.
